Music for your spice rack

I’ve been meaning to record a demo of a new project idea I had about a month ago… I really wanted to develop a drowning reverby/surfy sound that I heard in conjunction with the name “Apache Realty”.  The first song I had in mind for this can be listened to here:

For the most part, the sound matches the one I was trying to develop in my head.  I made sure to deviate from the structure of Jazz Pills songs by primarily focusing on rhythmic repetition, and ended up recording the whole song without the use of samples or self-made loops.  If people respond positively to this recording, I may try to write two or three more songs for a quick little EP release.

Also: Boston musicians should definitely contact me if they have practice space and are willing to develop this kind of sound into a live show within the next few months.

Wrote and recorded this in a little over an hour this afternoon:

Diamond Days by Kevin Spector

More of a mood than a song really. More to come

I’m letting go of a track I’ve been toying around with for a few weeks now.  It’s called “Count It Off” and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever made before:

Count It Off by Kevin Spector

This song is a bullshit product of fucking around with knobs and pedals with sampled lead vocals from the hardest workin’ man in show bidness himself:

Mr. James Brown

It’s lazily mastered and clips like a bitch, but it gets the job done.  It kinda sounds like a track that could support a rap vocal, but I chose to fill the empty spaces with noises instead.  Reminds me a little of My Life in the Bush of Ghosts

More to come

This will be a medium for me to share the new ideas and recordings I have between formal Jazz Pills releases. Feedback is highly appreciated!

I thought I’d start with a really jazzy-snappy song idea I’ve been working on for the last week.  I hope you like MIDI drums, cause you’re about to get a dose of percussive repetition:

The Way Things Go by Kevin Spector

The song’s style exists somewhere between the realm of the Kill Bill soundtrack and Radiohead’s “You and Whose Army”:

I initially wanted to write something more catchy and upbeat, but I couldn’t resist this creeping minor progression when I started playing out.  Check it out, but expect the next song idea to be more catchy as I get more used to playing around with MIDI percussion and mixing.
